Horny goat weed, or Epimedium grandiflorum, has been utilized traditionally in Chinese medicine for above 2000 years. This herb cultivates chiefly in the wild all over Asia, are present at higher altitudes in abundance.
In Chinese medicine, Epimedium is identified as yin yang huo, and that deciphers literally into English as “horny goat weed”. As per Chinese tradition, horny goat weed was a favorite of the mythological yin yang, a goat-like creature. Just like all legends, the story may consist of a grain of truth. As the name indicates, horny goat weed has long been employed to improve the sexual function in both males and females. Both males and females have erectile tissue that reacts to constituent present in horny goat weed referred to as icariin. Icariin works by inhibiting the enzyme, phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5) in turn supporting proper blood circulations to the male organ.
